Traditional Upholstery

Timber & Cloth Fine Upholstery LLC

Timber and Cloth Fine Upholstery LLC is a small independent studio with a a main focus on craftsmanship and sustainability.

I upholster and reupholster furniture using traditional methods and hand tools. The process involves lashing, stuffing, stitching, caning and materials such as hessian, linen cloth, jute webbing, horsehair, coir fibre and cotton felt.

Application of natural fabrics whether antique or contemporary is a priority. I do not use fabrics made out of synthetic fibres. I like to use remnants to create bags, lampshades and other goods.

Traditional Upholstery is a passion of mine. Restoring furniture to its former glory is a challenge, every seat is different. However, using traditional techniques and materials, I can create a seat that will last for many years.

I have received my qualifications completing the AMSUF (Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers) accredited diploma with distinction. I studied at the School of Art, Architecture and Design at London Metropolitan University, the British School of Upholstered Furniture and Maggi Loughran School of Soft Furnishing and Upholstery.

In addition I have completed a chair caning course at the West Dean Collage, England as well as online caning courses run by Silver River Center for Chair Caning, Asheville, NC.

If you’d like to contact me regarding a treasured piece of furniture, a family heirloom and have it reupholstered, please do not hesitate. If you are interested in my bespoke pieces, or pre-loved frames ready to be reupholstered please get in touch!
